After walking the streets of Bocas del Toro (above photo- see the bananas?) for a little while one afternoon, Justin and some researchers he's befriended (who just all happen to be German, but met for the first time in Panama-- weird) decide to go swimming off Isla Carenero. This island was so tropical it seemed fake. The waters were so blue and so clear, and the vegetation in some parts grew right up to the coast line. If it weren't for the mosquitoes, some might call this paradise.

Patacones!!! Wonderful greasy, golden medallions of pure crispy-starchy love. Thickly sliced unripe plantains, mashed, deep-fried, and lightly sprinkled with salt. This was our nightly snack at Restaurante Chitre for a mere 30¢ a serving. Más patacones, por favor!!!
